Privacy, Cookies & Terms

This page explains what happens to information you give us through this website, what the site does and does not store on your device, and the terms on which it is provided. It is written to be read rather than to protect us.

In data protection terms the data controller is the congregation of Church of Christ — White Hart Lane, London N17 8DP.

What we collect, and when

We only collect what you type into a form. There is no account to create, no profile built about you, and no tracking of what you read.

• Plan your visit — your name, email address, how many are coming, whether children are coming and their ages if you tell us, and anything you write in the message box.
• Prayer request — whatever you choose to give. Name and email are optional; the request itself is the only required field.
• Contact — your name, email address, phone number if you give one, the subject you choose, and your message.
• Newsletter — your email address only.
• Giving — when you submit a giving notification or Gift Aid declaration, your name, contact details and donation preferences are delivered to the treasurer to record your gift.

Why we hold it, and on what basis

Visit, prayer and contact messages are held so that a person can read and reply to them. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests — you have written to a church expecting an answer, and answering you is the whole point.

Newsletter sign-ups rely on your consent, which you gave by submitting the form and can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email.

Giving records are kept because charity law and HMRC Gift Aid rules require it. Our lawful basis there is legal obligation.

Who sees it

Enquiries are read by the person who looks after the church office and passed to whoever is best placed to answer — usually an elder or a ministry lead.

Prayer requests marked private go to the elders and no further. They are not read out, not printed in a notice sheet, and not discussed elsewhere.

Safeguarding concerns go to the safeguarding lead. Where there is a risk to a child or an adult at risk we will share information with the local authority, the police or other agencies, and we will do so without your consent if the law or someone's safety requires it.

We do not sell, rent or trade anyone's information, and we do not share it with other organisations for their own purposes.

How long we keep it

• Visit and general enquiries — up to 24 months, then deleted.
• Prayer requests — deleted once prayed for and any follow-up is complete, and in any case within 12 months.
• Newsletter — until you unsubscribe.
• Giving and Gift Aid records — seven financial years, as HMRC requires.
• Safeguarding records — retained in line with our safeguarding policy and statutory guidance, which may mean many years.

Processors we use

Running a website means relying on a few trusted suppliers. Each one is bound by a contract to process data only on our instructions.

• Website hosting — serves the pages you are reading. Standard server logs may include your IP address for a short period for security purposes.
• Email delivery (Resend) — carries form submissions, enquiries and notifications securely to the church office.

Cookies and third parties

This website sets no cookies of its own. There is no analytics, no advertising, no pixel and no fingerprinting — which is why you have not been asked to accept anything.

Typefaces are served from this website's own domain, so nothing is requested from a font provider as you browse.

Two things do reach outside, and only in these circumstances:

• Maps — the map on the contact and event pages is embedded from OpenStreetMap, which will see your IP address in order to send you map tiles.
• Video — sermon and teaching videos load from YouTube only after you press play. Nothing is requested from them, and no cookie of theirs is set, until you do.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to our using it. You can also withdraw consent where consent is what we relied on.

Ask through the contact form and we will respond within one month. There is no charge.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you told us first so we can put it right.

Children

We do not knowingly collect information from children through this website. Registration for children's and youth activities is handled on paper with a parent or carer, under our safeguarding policy.

No photograph of a child is published on this website without written consent from a parent or carer, and consent can be withdrawn at any time.

Terms of use

This website is provided by the congregation free of charge and in good faith. Service times, event details and other information are kept as accurate as we can make them, but they can change — if something matters, please check with us before travelling.

Sermons, articles and study material on this site may be freely downloaded, printed and shared for personal, family or congregational use. Please do not sell them, and please do not present them as your own work.

Photographs on this site remain the property of the congregation or the photographer and may not be used elsewhere without permission.

Nothing on this website is legal, financial, medical or counselling advice. Where you need that, please seek it from someone qualified to give it — and tell us if we can help you find them.

Links to other websites are offered as a convenience. We are not responsible for their content.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.

Changes to this page

If we change how any of this works we will change this page and update the date at the top. Material changes will be mentioned in the newsletter.
